Detroit Lions expected to lose WR/RET Tom Kennedy to season-ending injury

Detroit Lions return specialist Tom Kennedy is expected to miss the remainder of the 2026 campaign following a severe MCL injury. The setback occurred during a Week 5 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals when Kennedy sustained the damage while fielding a punt.

Although head coach Dan Campbell initially hoped for a minor recovery timeline, subsequent medical evaluations confirmed that surgical intervention is necessary. The team now faces the challenge of identifying a new primary returner for both punts and kicks during their upcoming bye week.

While Amon-Ra St. Brown filled in temporarily, the coaching staff is likely to explore other options like Khalil Dorsey to avoid overextending their key offensive playmakers.
