Las Vegas Raiders rookie quarterback Fernando Mendoza made his first live regular-season appearance in a 45–17 victory over the New England Patriots, entering the game late in a blowout to run the no-huddle offense. Over a single drive, Mendoza completed six of eight passes for 48 yards and added three rushing yards, showcasing accuracy and mobility while targeting multiple receivers.
Though the Patriots eventually tightened up the defense, Mendoza handled the pressure well, displaying poise with a clean pocket presence and the ability to extend plays when needed. His first five throws were all caught, though the sixth resulted in a fumble by receiver Malik Benson and the seventh was intercepted by Patriots cornerback Elliott Davison.
Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak emphasized that the appearance did not alter the team’s starting quarterback plans, with Kirk Cousins remaining the starter, but the opportunity allowed Mendoza to gain valuable experience in a controlled setting.
