Delhi Capitals have made a high-profile addition to their coaching staff ahead of the 2027 Indian Premier League season, appointing Sri Lanka’s legendary fast bowler Chaminda Vaas as their new fast bowling coach. Vaas, who claimed 355 Test wickets and 400 in ODIs during his playing career, brings extensive international coaching experience to the role, having previously served as Sri Lanka’s bowling coach in three separate stints and briefly worked with New Zealand and Ireland.
His IPL familiarity is also notable, having bowled for Deccan Chargers between 2008 and 2010, where he took 18 wickets in 13 matches. This move is part of a broader overhaul under head coach Sourav Ganguly, who has already named former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh as assistant and batting coach earlier this month.
The franchise has also been active in the player trade market, with notable transfers including wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant returning to Delhi from Lucknow Super Giants after a pay cut from Rs 27 crore to Rs 15 crore. Meanwhile, pacers T Natarajan and Zeeshan Ansari swapped teams, with Natarajan moving to Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 5 crore after Delhi acquired him for Rs 10.75 crore at the 2025 auction, while Ansari joined Delhi for his existing Rs 40 lakh fee.
Vaas replaces Munaf Patel, who had served as Delhi’s bowling coach for the past two seasons.
