Delhi Capitals have made a high-profile addition to their coaching staff ahead of the IPL 2027 season, appointing Sri Lanka’s legendary left-arm seamer Chaminda Vaas as their new fast bowling coach. Vaas, who finished his playing career with 355 Test and 400 ODI wickets for Sri Lanka, brings extensive experience from his time as a player in the IPL—representing Deccan Chargers between 2008 and 2010—and as a bowling consultant for New Zealand and Ireland’s national teams.
His arrival marks the franchise’s first major coaching overhaul since finishing sixth in IPL 2026, with seven wins and seven losses, prompting a restructuring of their support staff. Vaas replaces Munaf Patel in the role, joining a revamped setup that includes Sourav Ganguly as head coach, Yuvraj Singh as assistant and batting coach, and Amit Mishra as spin bowling coach.
The move signals Delhi Capitals’ intent to bolster their pace bowling group under Vaas’s guidance, leveraging his dual expertise as both a former elite fast bowler and an international-level coach.
