Former England wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow has publicly criticized the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for excluding Yorkshire all-rounder George Hill from the latest England Lions squads ahead of their upcoming series against West Indies A. Hill, 25, has shown strong all-round capabilities, averaging 34 in limited-overs cricket with 750 runs and 48 wickets, alongside his fielding prowess.
Despite his consistent first-class performances—including a batting average of 31 and 178 wickets at an average of 21—Hill was left out of both the T20 and 50-over squads set to tour St Kitts and Nevis in November. Bairstow, who played with Hill at Yorkshire, expressed frustration on Instagram, calling the decision an 'absolute joke' and highlighting Hill’s ability to swing the ball, bat effectively, and excel in the field.
The omission comes after Hill was previously named in the England Lions squad in May 2025, raising questions about the selectors’ approach to nurturing young talent with such versatile skills.
