Czech Republic ready for Wembley 30 years after Euro '96

Reflecting on the historic Euro 96 tournament, former Czech midfielder Patrik Berger recently shared memories of a campaign that began with low expectations, holiday plans made for the group stage, and teammate Jurgen Kohler unaware his country had even qualified. Despite dropping their opening match to Germany, the squad advanced through dramatic group results, a famous lobbed goal against Portugal by Karel Poborsky at Villa Park, and a tense semifinal penalty shootout victory over France at Old Trafford.

Vladimír Šmicer notably flew back to Prague for his wedding just days before the Wembley final against Germany, where Berger eventually opened the scoring from the penalty spot before the team finished their fairytale run.
