Dallas has strengthened its backfield depth by signing running back Tyler Goodson directly from Atlanta's practice squad to the 53-man roster. Prior to the transaction, Goodson had recorded a touchdown for the Falcons in an August 22 preseason matchup against Indianapolis at Lucas Oil Stadium.
The addition follows a difficult game for the Cowboys, whose pass rush struggled against Jaxson Dart while offensive tackle Tyler Guyton provided a rare positive performance. Meanwhile, the Falcons fell 20-13 to the Steelers in Week 1 amid significant roster turmoil, which included a torn quad for defensive tackle Da'Shawn Hand.
Atlanta was also forced to start Cooper Rush at quarterback due to injuries keeping Tua Tagovailoa and Michael Penix Jr. sidelined, even as Rush fought through back spasms alongside backup Jack Strand in head coach Kevin Stefanski's debut.
The defeat did feature notable milestones, however, as running back Bijan Robinson produced a highlight catch-and-run while surpassing Devonta Freeman on the franchise's career rushing leaderboard, and defensive end Za'Darius Smith was able to suit up despite health concerns.
