Candi Gauff, a former Florida State University heptathlete and gymnast who has since worked as a teacher, shared a supportive message on Instagram after her daughter, Coco Gauff, appeared on the cover of Dropshot Magazine. The photoshoot was captured by French photographer Loic Wacziak, known for employing modern digital equipment to mimic 1960s double exposure aesthetics, and Candi praised the imagery for reflecting the broader journey of tennis and life.
This personal moment follows a turbulent period for the World No. 5 player, who recently withdrew from the Wuhan Open after a controversial campaign at the China Open in Beijing.
Gauff’s run in Beijing ended after she stopped a point against Chinese wild card Sun Xinran due to distracting electronic boards, an incident that sparked online racism and criticism. Although tennis legends Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert voiced their support, Gauff described the online abuse as draining and subsequently skipped the Wuhan event, where she had been the previous year’s champion.
She is now expected to compete at the year-end WTA Finals, for which she has already qualified.
