Three days after ESPN's College GameDay broadcast from the BYU campus in Provo, Pat McAfee and Steve Young reflected on the memorable atmosphere that preceded a 28-24 victory for the Cougars over Notre Dame. Young, who served as a guest picker on the show, was the only analyst alongside McAfee to correctly predict the upset, a decision McAfee attributed to the palpable energy he felt upon waking and watching highlights of quarterback Bear Bachmeier.
During a Tuesday appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Young praised Bachmeier's performance, noting the dual-threat player recorded 224 passing yards, one passing touchdown, 45 rushing yards, and two rushing touchdowns. Young dismissed comparisons to Tim Tebow as insufficient, arguing that Bachmeier's ability to throw the ball downfield makes him a unique prospect who could potentially succeed at the professional level.
The conversation also highlighted Young's perfect 10-0 record with his GameDay selections, a feat McAfee described as remarkable given that five of the top seven ranked teams lost that Saturday.
