Cincinnati Bearcats running back Gi'Bran Payne will miss the remainder of Saturday’s game against West Virginia after suffering an ankle injury during the first half. Payne, the team’s leading rusher with 392 yards entering the contest, left the field after seven carries for 26 yards and was replaced by Cole Tabb, who has already surpassed 100 rushing yards in the matchup.
The injury is a setback for Payne, who transferred to Cincinnati from Notre Dame earlier this year after spending the 2024 season on the sideline due to a previous injury. Before his transfer, he was a key contributor for the Irish in 2023, gaining 168 yards and scoring two touchdowns as a short-yardage back, though his role last season was primarily on special teams.
Payne’s departure also marks another personnel loss for the Bearcats, who had already seen defensive lineman Josh Hough sit out the game.
