A bizarre sideline incident during Saturday’s Big 12 matchup between West Virginia and Cincinnati left Bearcats defensive lineman Josh Hough sidelined with a lower-body injury. The accident occurred when a West Virginia staff member operating a golf cart backed into a sideline wall, directly striking Hough in the process.
Footage from the game on TNT showed Hough being helped off the field in apparent distress, with the injury worsening as he was transported from the area. The incident took place midway through the second quarter, when the score stood at 7–7, before Cincinnati went on to take a 21–14 halftime lead.
Hough, a 6-foot-2, 335-pound transfer from Syracuse who had recently switched from fullback, was ruled out for the remainder of the game and replaced by Elijah Gunn. No details on the severity of Hough’s injury have been released, though the unusual circumstances of the collision have drawn attention to an already tense matchup between the two teams.
