Former Red Bull boss Christian Horner recently shared his perspective regarding the team's historic junior driver strategy. During a recent podcast appearance, he pointed the finger at Helmut Marko for pushing young talents into the senior squad before they were fully prepared for the pressure.
Horner specifically named Pierre Gasly, Alex Albon, and Liam Lawson as examples of competitors who received their promotions too early in their careers. According to Horner, this rush hindered their initial development compared to drivers who spent more time gaining experience in less competitive machinery.
Despite the difficult circumstances, Horner noted that the organization attempted to safeguard these prospects by utilizing their secondary team or assisting with placements elsewhere on the grid, such as securing Albon a seat at Williams.
