Cam Skattebo’s return to his vintage Giants form comes with celebration pledge after backflip

New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo produced an eventful 2026 season debut at MetLife Stadium, helping guide his squad to a 28-20 victory over the Dallas Cowboys. The former Arizona State standout, who drew online attention for his pregame wardrobe, found the end zone on the game's first drive and punctuated the score with a gymnastics backflip.

That celebratory leap elicited both thrills and nervousness from spectators, considering Skattebo suffered an open fracture in his right leg under a year earlier, endured subsequent rehabilitation, and dealt with a training camp setback. Overall, he paced all rushers on the day by racking up 81 yards on the ground.

His afternoon also featured plenty of controversy and physical intensity under new Giants head coach John Harbaugh, who had recently spoken about Skattebo needing to direct his fiery temperament constructively. During a second-quarter third-and-2 attempt, the ball carrier was stopped, suffered a bloody facial wound, and shouted at referees over an unpenalized facemask tackle executed by Cowboys lineman Quinnen Williams.
