The Winnipeg Jets erased a 4-0 deficit in the final minutes of regulation and added an overtime winner to defeat the Montreal Canadiens 5-4, setting an NHL record for the most goals scored in a comeback from such a deficit. Trailing by four goals with just three minutes remaining in the third period, the Jets’ offense roared to life, with Tyrel Bauer breaking the deadlock at 17:21 of the frame.
Dylan Samberg then sealed the victory with a game-winning goal in overtime, ending a nine-game losing streak for the struggling franchise. The Canadiens, who had led comfortably early, collapsed in the third period after Cole Caufield’s second goal of the night extended their lead to 4-0 at 46 seconds remaining.
