Belgian climber makes rare switch from Soudal-QuickStep to Lotto-Intermarché

October 20, 2026

Belgian climber Mauri Vansevenant is making a rare move between Belgium’s top WorldTour squads, joining Lotto-Intermarché on a two-year deal after three successful seasons with Soudal-QuickStep. The 27-year-old, who turned professional in 2021, brings three stage wins to his résumé, including victories at the 2021 GP Industria e Artigianato, a mountain stage of the 2023 Tour of Oman, and a stage in the 2024 Tour of Luxembourg.

His recent performances—finishing seventh at this year’s Amstel Gold Race and fifth in a breakaway on Vuelta a España’s stage 12—highlight his climbing prowess and consistency in the peloton’s toughest races. Vansevenant’s transition to Lotto, the team his father, Wim Vansevenant, raced for between 2003 and 2008, marks the latest in a series of infrequent transfers between Belgium’s two flagship teams, following Pascal Eenkoorn’s switch last year and Philippe Gilbert’s move in 2019.

The climber emphasized the team’s storied history and family-like atmosphere, calling it an ideal environment to both challenge himself and mentor younger riders like Jarno Widar. With ambitions to secure a Grand Tour stage win and target Classics such as Liège-Bastogne-Liège, Vansevenant’s arrival is part of Lotto-Intermarché’s broader roster overhaul, which also includes additions like Guillaume Martin and Juan Sebastián Molano, while stars Arnaud De Lie and Lennert van Eetvelt depart.
