Back to the future: lessons from the Asian Games for the Olympics

The recent cricket tournament at the Asian Games highlighted significant organizational shortcomings, including the absence of a Decision Review System and poor pitch conditions. Television broadcasts were marred by amateurish errors, such as misidentifying players by their passport names and frequent interruptions by advertisements that obscured key match moments.

These issues raise concerns regarding the International Cricket Council's oversight as the sport prepares for the upcoming Olympic Games in Los Angeles. The event underscored a disconnect between the high expectations placed on top-ranked teams like India and the substandard conditions provided for the competition.
