Australia staged a remarkable turnaround on the opening day of the series decider after a difficult start. Despite conceding 140 runs in the first session, the tourists capitalized on South African errors to restrict the hosts to 329 all out.
Mitchell Starc spearheaded the late rally by claiming four wickets in six balls, including the final three batters for ducks. Earlier, Nathan Lyon dismissed Marques Ackerman and Temba Bavuma, while poor shot selection cost Aiden Markram, David Bedingham, and Wiaan Mulder their wickets.
Ryan Rickelton and Marco Jansen also fell to Starc as the Proteas collapsed from a strong position of 327-6.
