Atlanta forward Angel Reese has captured the 2026 Kia Defensive Player of the Year award, becoming the first member of the franchise to earn the league's top individual defensive honor. Reese anchored her team's defense by pacing the WNBA with 3.39 in Defensive Win Shares, grabbing 4.8 offensive boards per contest, and totaling 521 rebounds to make history as the first player ever to reach 500 boards in a single year.
Following the announcement, Reese insisted that teammates Jordin Canada and Rhyne Howard deserve equal recognition and asked them to sign her trophy. The stellar campaign also featured Reese averaging 16.4 points and 2.8 assists, while adding 1.8 steals per game behind her aforementioned teammates, who recorded 1.9 and 2.3 steals respectively.
