Alexander Zverev could have a golden opportunity to prove he’s worthy of world number one status very soon

Alexander Zverev is poised to claim the top spot in the ATP rankings, but his ascendance is met with scrutiny because he secured his two major titles this season without defeating Jannik Sinner or Carlos Alcaraz. While Sinner will remain sidelined with a knee injury for the rest of the year, Zverev may soon cross paths with Alcaraz at the Vienna Open, presenting a vital chance to validate his ranking against top-tier competition.

Zverev enters this phase as the first German man to reach the number one spot since Boris Becker in 1991, though he has struggled in head-to-head matches against his elite rivals throughout the current season.
