Aakash Chopra has publicly endorsed Gautam Gambhir's decision to shift Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to the top of the batting order for India's third T20I against New Zealand. Chopra argued that the 15-year-old should be placed in his most comfortable position rather than being asked to adapt to an unfamiliar role under the high pressure of international competition, suggesting that senior players should adjust their spots to accommodate the youngster.
The tactical change proved effective in Wellington on October 27, where Sooryavanshi scored 45 runs off 19 balls, including four boundaries and four sixes. Partnering with Abhishek Sharma, who struck 113 off 38 deliveries, the duo shared a 133-run stand off just 43 balls.
This aggressive opening partnership enabled India to chase down New Zealand's target of 199 in 13.2 overs, securing a six-wicket victory with 40 balls to spare.
