The Tampa Bay Rays avoided elimination in the World Series by defeating the Milwaukee Brewers 4-3 in a 12-inning walk-off victory. The Rays' bullpen, which had struggled in previous games, held the Brewers to one run and four hits over eight innings of work.
Nick Martinez, who was scheduled to start Game 5, was instead used in relief for six outs. Martinez, who has a career history of both starting and 151 relief appearances, expressed confidence that his team could win four consecutive games to take the title.
Manager Kevin Cash relied on the relief group, including closer Bryan Baker, to secure the win and reduce the series deficit to 3-1.
