Delhi Capitals have acquired the services of 15-year-old Karnataka cricketer Uma Kashvi for 10 lakh rupees, making her the youngest player ever purchased at a Women's Premier League auction. This achievement, recorded on October 28 in Kochi, sees Kashvi surpass the previous record holder, Deeya Yadav, who was 16 when she was selected last year.
Although Kashvi has demonstrated exceptional skill since age seven, including a 217-run innings at 12, her immediate availability for the WPL is uncertain due to her commitment to India's Under-19 World Cup squad in Bangladesh and Nepal. Her coach, Arjun Dev, noted that while the selection was a pleasant surprise, her participation in the upcoming tournament likely means she will not be present for the league's opening matches.
