Cricket legend Chaminda Vaas is returning to the Indian Premier League after a 16-year absence, this time as a coach rather than a player. The Sri Lankan fast-bowling icon has joined Delhi Capitals as their fast-bowling coach ahead of the IPL 2027 season, bringing decades of experience both as a player and a mentor.
Vaas, who previously played for Deccan Chargers from 2008 to 2010, will now work alongside head coach Sourav Ganguly and batting coach Yuvraj Singh to strengthen Delhi Capitals’ bowling unit. His coaching journey includes stints with New Zealand’s fast bowlers in 2012, Sri Lanka’s national team from 2013 to 2022, and roles as a consultant for Ireland and Lanka Premier League teams.
With 355 Test wickets and 400 ODI scalps during his playing career, Vaas will aim to guide Delhi’s young Indian fast bowlers with his expertise in swing bowling and match-winning pressure tactics.
