5 winners, 3 losers from Detroit Lions’ win over the New Orleans Saints

The Detroit Lions opened their season at Ford Field with an eventful 31-30 overtime triumph over the New Orleans Saints on September 13, 2026. Running back Jahmyr Gibbs powered the offense with an explosive performance on the ground, and the defensive front harassed the opposition to help Detroit construct a commanding 21-point advantage.

However, a late breakdown in the secondary enabled the Saints to stage a furious comeback and push the matchup beyond regulation. Despite New Orleans attempting a decisive two-point conversion, Detroit managed to hold on for the victory, surviving earlier miscues including an opening-quarter dropped throw by Jameson Williams.
