4 overreactions from Week 1 that might stick this season: Woes for Cowboys, Broncos and Patriots, and joy for future Bears fireworks

Week 1 of the 2026 NFL campaign delivered sudden shifts in momentum across the league. Chicago dazzled in their opening victory, erupting for a historic 59 points driven by strides from Caleb Williams and a dominant ground attack.

Meanwhile, Josh Allen guided his squad past Houston, while Baltimore also thrived, standing in sharp contrast to opening setbacks and growing worries for outfits like Denver, New England, and the Chargers.

Defense proved especially costly for Dallas, which faltered against the Giants in a mistake-riddled performance that dropped both them and the Broncos in the latest pecking order. Elsewhere, questions swirled around Green Bay with Matt LaFleur under heightened scrutiny, Baker Mayfield faced renewed debate regarding his Tampa Bay deal, and the Rams navigated life without Myles Garrett while still holding onto a top-five rank.
