The Atlanta Dream’s WNBA Finals run just got a major boost as Games 3 and 4 of the championship series will now be played at State Farm Arena, a venue with a capacity of 17,000—nearly four times larger than their usual home, Gateway Center Arena. The move comes after the team’s undefeated postseason record in this stadium, where they’ve also sold out five of six regular-season games.
The shift was necessitated by scheduling conflicts, including a Sombr concert and Atlanta Hawks games, which forced Game 3 to be moved up a day to October 21, while Game 4 will start an hour earlier on October 24 to avoid overlapping with the Hawks’ home opener. The decision has been widely praised by league leaders, including WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert, who called it a step forward for women’s basketball, ensuring a larger crowd and more visibility for the Dream’s historic push to the title.
