'Rookie mistake' leaves Elisa Longo Borghini outside the medals in the women’s elite road race at the European Road Championships

Elisa Longo Borghini secured fourth place in the elite women's road race at the European Championships in Slovenia following a tactical miscalculation on the final corner. After Dutch competitor Demi Vollering claimed victory via a solo attack, Longo Borghini battled through a chase group alongside Marlen Reusser and Kasia Niewiadoma-Phinney, only for a crash by Niewiadoma-Phinney to disrupt her final sprint and leave her just off the podium.
