Former India selector Venkatapathy Raju has criticized the national team management for keeping Kuldeep Yadav on the bench throughout the five-match T20I series against New Zealand, which the visitors claimed with a 3-2 victory. Raju expressed surprise that the left-arm wrist spinner was named in the squad for all three formats yet failed to earn a single appearance in the T20s, arguing that such limited exposure hinders a bowler's control and development.
The former selector highlighted that Kuldeep has featured in only three of India's 35 matches played in South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia over the last two years. Raju suggested that if the team does not intend to utilize the spinner in international fixtures, they should instead allow him to gain experience through domestic cricket, noting that current opposition batters are exploiting the lack of bowling variations in India's current setup.
