Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian has ignited a firestorm of debate after hinting that quarterback Arch Manning could be benched following a dismal start to the season. The Longhorns, once ranked No.
1 nationally, have dropped two straight games, including a 27-24 upset loss to Florida at home, where Manning struggled with a 14-for-20 performance totaling 173 yards and a touchdown while also fumbling the ball late in the game. The loss came just a week after a costly interception in a 28-27 defeat to Oklahoma.
Manning has thrown for over 250 yards in only one of his last five games, raising questions about his consistency. Sarkisian, frustrated with the offense’s overall performance, left the door open to a quarterback change, stating that ‘everything is going to be evaluated.’ If Texas moves on from Manning, redshirt freshman K.J.
Lacey, a former four-star recruit, would likely take over. The Longhorns face a tough stretch ahead with Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Missouri, and LSU on the schedule over the next four weeks, adding urgency to the situation.
