North Dakota State secured its first-ever FBS bowl berth with a hard-fought 31-17 victory over Nevada on Saturday, moving to 6-1 on the season. The Bison overcame an early 11-0 deficit and a slow start to take control in the second half, with quarterback Nathan Hayes delivering a late touchdown pass to seal the win.
The victory not only locked up postseason eligibility for the first time in program history but also put NDSU in position to contend for the Mountain West title. With a 3-1 conference record, the Bison now sit tied for third in the league and could clinch a spot in the championship game if they win out, including a key matchup at New Mexico next week.
Their path to the title game could also hinge on UNLV’s performance, as the Bison have already defeated both Air Force and Wyoming in league play. If NDSU sweeps its remaining games, they could even host the Mountain West title game at the Fargodome, depending on how the season unfolds.
The win also keeps alive speculation about a potential College Football Playoff berth, though the Bison are eyeing a higher-profile postseason run than the Arizona, Hawaii, Famous Idaho Potato, or Isleta New Mexico bowls.
