‘It’s something very special’ – Manuel Neuer on surpassing Thomas Müller and Lionel Messi

Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer recently achieved a major milestone by making his 164th appearance in the UEFA Champions League. This achievement elevates him to third place in all-time tournament appearances, allowing him to pass both Lionel Messi and Thomas Müller.

Neuer expressed that reaching this landmark is exceptionally meaningful after overcoming numerous injuries during his career. He now sits behind only Iker Casillas and Cristiano Ronaldo in the historical rankings.

Following a recent 2-0 win against Atletico Madrid, the veteran goalkeeper noted the squad's strong defensive performance throughout the fixture. With his former competitors no longer participating in the competition, Neuer expects to climb even higher in the appearance standings.

He also highlighted his impressive defensive record of 65 clean sheets in the tournament.
