Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith IV may be sitting out the remainder of the 2025 season following a 41-28 defeat to the Oregon Ducks, according to former NFL running back Damien Harris. Harris argued on CBS Sports that Smith has already secured his legacy with school records for receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns, as well as a national championship, leaving little motivation to continue playing for a team that is no longer a contender for the College Football Playoff.
Smith finished the loss with seven catches for 133 yards and a touchdown, though his Heisman Trophy odds dropped significantly from +275 to +700 after the game, with Miami quarterback Darien Mensah now leading the race. The Buckeyes, currently 6-3, face upcoming matchups against Northwestern and Nebraska, but Harris suggested that Smith’s future is uncertain due to the arrival of Julian Sayin for the 2026 campaign and the lack of meaningful goals for the current season.
