‘Feeling more motivated than ever’ - Jos Buttler provides update after hamstring surgery, faces lengthy lay-off

Jos Buttler underwent left‑hamstring surgery on 12 October 2026 and announced the procedure on Instagram, showing himself in a hospital bed with a brace and a thumbs‑up. The operation follows a hamstring strain that first appeared during England’s second ODI against Sri Lanka at Headingley on 24 September, where Buttler scored 69 off 49 balls before withdrawing again.

The injury rules him out of the upcoming England tri‑series in Pakistan, the November white‑ball tour of Australia, and casts doubt on his participation in the SA20 season with Durban’s Super Giants starting 17 January 2027. Despite the setback, the ECB confirmed a one‑year contract extension for Buttler alongside leg‑spinner Adil Rashid, with his new deal running through the 2027 50‑over World Cup in South Africa.
