Zverev upset in Vienna semifinals ahead of taking No. 1 ranking

Alexander Zverev experienced a sudden defeat in the Vienna Open semifinals shortly after confirming his upcoming ascent to the top of the world rankings. The German player, who recently secured his status as the new number one, fell to Alex de Minaur in a competitive three-set match.

This result follows a successful week where Zverev guaranteed his climb to the top spot by defeating Tallon Griekspoor, marking a historic achievement as the first German man to reach this position since 1991. Earlier in the tournament, Zverev also secured a victory over Arthur Fery to advance through the bracket.
