Ireland head coach Scott Bemand views the approaching WXV Global Series as the start of a fresh preparation phase for the upcoming Women's Rugby World Cup three years from now. The squad enters this period following a quarter-final exit against France in the previous World Cup and a third-place finish in the 2026 Six Nations, a run that featured three victories on home soil.
Looking ahead to the next global showcase, Bemand emphasized that up to 28 international appearances could be up for grabs, providing emerging players a chance to earn around 25 caps before the tournament begins.
The Irish kick off their tournament against the United States this Sunday at Tallaght Stadium in Dublin, kicking off at 13:45 BST. Subsequent matches include a two-game set against Japan in Galway and Cork on 27 September and 3 October, followed by meetings with South Africa in Cape Town on 24 and 31 October.
Ireland will contest these matches without second row Sam Monaghan, who has been sidelined by an Achilles issue, though Bemand expressed confidence that her absence offers other squad members a prime opening to stake their claim and demonstrate an expansive, high-tempo style of play.
