Olympic and World champion marathoner Peres Jepchirchir has been provisionally suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unit after an out‑of‑competition test returned a positive result for the blood‑boosting drug EPO. The sample was taken in Kenya before she travelled to Australia for the Sydney Marathon, which she won on 30 August 2026 in a time of 2 hours 18 minutes 31 seconds.
Jepchirchir, 33, previously secured marathon gold at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and repeated the feat at the 2025 World Championships in the same city. Her major victories also include New York (2021), Boston (2022), London (2024) and the 2025 seventh World Major in Sydney, where she finished more than three minutes ahead of fellow Kenyan Irene Chepet Cheptai.
