Spey Bay Golf Club, a historic Scottish links course located along the country’s northern coast, has been listed for sale with a minimum asking price exceeding $2 million. The club, acquired in 2023 by LinksDAO—a U.S.-based, community-driven golf organization—is now being divested as part of a strategic shift by the group.
LinksDAO, which operates on a decentralized ownership model where members vote on major decisions, had previously attracted global attention for its innovative approach to golf club ownership, with nearly 88% of its members approving the purchase of Spey Bay. During its tenure, the organization invested in course improvements and elevated the club’s profile, particularly among international golfers in North America, even securing its inclusion in Scottish top-100 rankings during its ownership period.
The sale marks the end of LinksDAO’s first foray into Scottish golf, as the group has decided to redirect its focus and resources to projects within the United States. In a statement, LinksDAO CEO Chris Bruce confirmed the strategic realignment, emphasizing that the majority of its membership base resides in the U.S.
Spey Bay’s general manager, Bert MacKay, echoed this sentiment in a Facebook post, noting that the club’s sale would allow LinksDAO to prioritize U.S.-based initiatives while acknowledging the broader impact of the golf club on its staff, members, and local community. The property is being marketed by specialist agent HMH, with no indications of financial distress, as LinksDAO has highlighted the club’s operational success and enhanced reputation during its ownership.
