Donald Trump has criticized the condition of the East Potomac Golf Links in Washington, D.C., labeling it a 'trash island' on Truth Social. His remarks follow a legal battle regarding the proposed transformation of the 36-hole public facility into an 18-hole championship course.
The lawsuit, which involves the DC Preservation League and two local players, challenges the administration's plans to redesign the property near Hains Point.
Trump announced a potential November 15 closure for a 15-month renovation project, with a reopening target of February 2028. He identified architect Tom Fazio and his son Gavin Fazio as part of the conceptual design process.
During a recent hearing, Interior Department official Gregory Wischer discussed these plans, while U.S. District Judge Ana Reyes oversees the ability to renovate the site.
Government lawyers argued that a final redevelopment plan has not yet been officially approved.
