The 2027 Tour de France is set to shift its primary mountain battles to the Pyrenees, with stages 18 and 19 earmarked for the southern range. Stage 18 could finish on the Hors Catégorie Col du Portet, a climb that previously saw Tadej Pogačar win in 2021 after beating Jonas Vingegaard, and before that was the decisive 65‑km mountain stage where Nairo Quintana claimed his final Tour victory in 2018.
The Portet ascent follows the legendary HC climbs of the Tourmalet and Aubisque, promising a ferociously difficult day of racing.
Earlier in the race, the Jura’s highest paved pass, Le Grand Colombier, may open the climbing phase, while historic links could bring stages near Sallanches—site of Bernard Hinault’s 1980 world championship triumph—and a summit finish in Mende in the Massif Central, recalling Laurent Jalabert’s celebrated 1995 stage win.
