Former Jharkhand cricketer Saurabh Tiwary, known for his explosive batting and resemblance to M.S. Dhoni, has taken on a new role as Secretary of the Jharkhand State Cricket Association.
Tiwary, who played three One Day Internationals for India and amassed over 8,000 first-class runs at an average of 47.22—including 22 centuries and 34 fifties—has shifted his focus from the field to administration, aiming to provide better opportunities for Jharkhand’s players, both male and female, by offering access to the Ranchi stadium for training and development. Despite his own limited success in domestic trophies, Tiwary expressed a clear ambition for Jharkhand to win the Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy, and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy across all formats, stating, 'I want Jharkhand to win trophies in all three formats.'
Reflecting on his playing days, Tiwary acknowledged the evolving nature of modern cricket, noting that even young talents like 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryanshi are now dominating the IPL with power-hitting prowess. He also fondly recalled his role in India’s 2008 Under-19 World Cup victory in Malaysia, where he was part of a team that included future stars like Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, and Manish Pandey, despite being run out in the final against South Africa.
Tiwary’s transition from player to administrator underscores his commitment to nurturing the next generation of Jharkhand cricketers, even as he acknowledges the challenges of competing with today’s high-powered batting standards.
