The PGA Tour Champions regular season concludes this week at the SAS Championship, serving as the final stop before the high-stakes Charles Schwab Cup playoffs. The event in Cary, North Carolina, features a star-studded lineup, including defending champion Alex Cejka, two-time SAS winner Bernhard Langer, and Vaughn Taylor, who secured his first senior tour victory last week.
Notable absences include the top three in the Schwab standings—Stewart Cink, Zach Johnson, and Steven Alker—who are all sitting out to rest ahead of the playoffs. Meanwhile, Michael Block, who has played 16 times this season on sponsor exemptions, remains a lock for the postseason and could clinch a 2027 tour card if he finishes in the top 36.
The tournament also marks the last chance for players like Mike Weir, Kenny Perry, and Harrison Frazar to secure their spots in the Schwab Cup playoffs, with the top 72 advancing to the three-tournament postseason. The 54-hole event, airing on Golf Channel, offers a $2.3 million prize fund, with the winner earning $345,000.
Additionally, the Sprint to St. Louis, a five-tournament dash, will determine the finalists for next week’s Stifel Charity Classic, where the top three Schwab Cup points leaders will compete for a $200,000 bonus—though Zach Johnson and Steven Alker currently lead the standings but are not in this week’s field.
