College football features numerous long-standing customs, but one of the sport's most endearing rituals is a relatively recent creation known as the Hawkeye Wave. Established in September 2017, the gesture takes place at the conclusion of the opening quarter of every home contest.
When the stadium clock expires after the first period, spectators, players, and coaches pause to turn toward the neighboring children's hospital and exchange waves with pediatric patients and their families looking down from the facility's windows.
