Organizers for the upcoming multi-sport gathering in Japan have introduced a major regulation update concerning the men's cricket championship match scheduled for October 3. Under the revised guidelines, if severe weather forces a complete abandonment of the title clash, both participating squads will be awarded dual gold medals instead of relying on pre-tournament seedings.
This adjustment contrasts directly with the previous edition held in Hangzhou, where an abandoned championship fixture left one nation with gold and the runner-up with silver based on standings. For the current competition, a contest remains official only if both sides manage to face a minimum of five overs apiece, with the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern calculation coming into play once the second batting side reaches that threshold.
Shreyas Iyer leads the top-seeded squad, which previously advanced through the preliminary stages when their scheduled quarterfinal matchup was completely washed out alongside a similar fixture involving Pakistan.
