During their third ODI run chase against India, the West Indies suffered a major setback when Sherfane Rutherford was given out following a controversial review. TV umpire Sharfuddoula upheld the on-field decision after snicko registered a spike, despite replays appearing to show bat-pad contact and a clear separation between the ball and the bat.
The dismissal sparked immediate outrage from the batting side as well as cricket commentators on social media.
Prior to the disputed decision, the visiting team had built a strong foundation while pursuing a target of 352. John Campbell fell early in the innings, but Amir Jangoo contributed 67 runs before being run out by Virat Kohli, and Shai Hope subsequently reached his 21st century.
Despite the subsequent stumble following Rutherford's departure, Hope and Keemo Paul worked to stabilize the innings as the visitors pushed toward the target.
