The England and Wales Cricket Board has finalized its roster of central contracts for the upcoming 2026-27 men's season, distributing 30 full agreements alongside nine development deals. This system, which originated in 2000, establishes the governing body as the primary employer for top talent, allowing for centralized oversight of training, health, and workload management.
Similar arrangements were confirmed for the women's squad in late November, featuring 17 full-time spots and four specialized skills contracts. These agreements aim to support current stars while investing in future prospects, with the board often covering the majority of player salaries.
Notably, the financial uplift provided by these central deals is generally more significant for female cricketers compared to their county-level earnings than it is for their male counterparts.
