Victor Wembanyama said the Spurs’ Game 4 collapse against the New York Knicks was the most intense heartbreak of his career, recalling the 107‑106 defeat at Madison Square Garden on June 10 after blowing a 29‑point lead. He ranked that loss alongside Game 1 and Game 7 of the 2026 Western Conference Finals in Oklahoma City as the toughest moments of the postseason.
The Spurs, who entered the Finals as favorites, ultimately fell in five games, closing the series with a 94‑90 loss at San Antonio’s Frost Bank Center on June 13, giving the Knicks their first championship in 53 years. Wembanyama addressed criticism over a viral shove of Knicks guard Jalen Brunson in Game 3, saying he ignored the narrative and focused on playing basketball rather than aggression.
He also reflected on his 2025 shoulder blood‑clot diagnosis, noting it changed his outlook and made him less hesitant to speak his mind. The 7‑foot‑4 center is averaging 28.0 points, 10.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 4.2 blocks and 1.3 steals this season and believes he deserves the NBA MVP award.
