Vanoli ‘happy’ as Fiorentina win at last: ‘We deserved three points a long time ago’

ACF Fiorentina snapped their longest winless stretch of the season with a commanding 4-2 victory over Sassuolo in Serie A, ending a 1.5-month drought. The Viola’s late surge included a brace from Mateo Pellegrino and Alieu Njie, while substitute Pedro Gonçalves orchestrated a crucial play for Franco Mastantuono’s winner, with Valdepeñas adding a late goal to seal the three points.

Head coach Paolo Vanoli praised his squad’s resilience, noting they had earned victory multiple times before but fell short due to errors or inexperience. The win ties Fiorentina with Sassuolo on eight points, three clear of the relegation zone, and provides a morale boost after a tough stretch where they squandered leads against Inter, Como, and Atalanta.

Vanoli emphasized the team’s growth through adversity, crediting mistakes as a learning tool for the young roster. He also highlighted the cultural shift he’s instilling, framing the club’s identity as a collective effort rather than individual brilliance, with players like Gonçalves and former captain João Mário serving as examples of professionalism and teamwork.

The victory marks a turning point in Fiorentina’s campaign, offering both tactical confidence and a psychological lift as they navigate the grueling Serie A schedule.
