Former international batter Virender Sehwag has likened young Indian cricketer Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to his own style of play, praising the teenager for an aggressive mindset that involves striking the ball from the very first delivery. Sehwag expressed these thoughts while discussing selection policies in professional sports, arguing that chronological age becomes irrelevant once a competitor reaches the top tier such as the Indian Premier League or international matches.
Pointing out the presence of veterans alongside teenagers in professional squads, the former opener emphasized that output on the field remains the sole metric of value. Sooryavanshi entered senior international duty against England during July 2026 at age fifteen, subsequently collecting two hundred forty-six runs across eight Twenty20 Internationals at a strike rate exceeding one hundred eighty.
Despite those early performances, the left-handed opening prospect was left out of the national team setup for the ongoing series against the West Indies, having previously missed fixtures versus Afghanistan as well. While representing the Rajasthan Royals franchise in domestic Twenty20 competition, the young athlete continues waiting for his maiden appearance representing the country on home soil.
