Smriti Mandhana has been appointed as a Celebrity Advocate for UNICEF India, a role announced on the International Day of the Girl. This new position follows her recent appointment as the captain of the India National Women's Team, where she takes over leadership duties from Harmanpreet Kaur.
The transition in team management occurred shortly after the squad secured a gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games held in Japan.
In her capacity as an advocate, Mandhana intends to promote equal rights and opportunities for young people, drawing on her own experiences as a professional athlete. UNICEF India representative Cynthia McCaffrey highlighted Mandhana as a prime example of how talent flourishes when provided with the right support, noting that the partnership aims to empower girls to lead and reach their full potential.
