The United States team, led by captain Jim Furyk, is embracing the underdog label ahead of the 2027 Ryder Cup at Adare Manor, where they aim to end a 34-year drought of away victories in Europe. Furyk, who previously captained the U.S.
to a loss in France in 2018, acknowledged the challenge of competing on European soil, where the Americans have failed to win since 1993. He emphasized the team’s need to improve, particularly in foursomes, where they’ve struggled in recent tournaments, winning just three points out of 16 in the last two Ryder Cups.
Furyk also highlighted the opportunity to integrate younger talent, including standout performers like Jackson Koivun, who made an impression during the Presidents Cup earlier this year. Meanwhile, European captain Luke Donald expressed cautious optimism, noting the U.S.
team’s strength and determination while insisting his side remains prepared for the competition.
Furyk’s leadership comes after a disappointing U.S. performance at the 2025 Ryder Cup, where Keegan Bradley’s team fell to Luke Donald’s Europe at Bethpage Black.
With a mix of experienced veterans and rising stars, Furyk is focused on strategic changes and a renewed effort to secure an elusive away win. The 2027 Ryder Cup will mark Furyk’s second stint as captain, and he’s determined to turn the tide after years of frustration on European courses.
